Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly
in recognition of some of the 'greats' of history. Lirpa Loof (April Fool backwards) is probably down to Charles IV of France, who, in 1564 declared that January 1st would be the start of the new year. Prior to that the new year started at the spring equinox and was celebrated from March 25th to April 2nd. Some people were slow to catch up with the change and some even resisted, so they became the butt of jokes and pranks from the more progressive up-to-date citizens. If the truth were known the fools were the ones that didn’t celebrate the new year twice. |
